News you can use every month…
This month, we share the good news on our recovery from Hurricane Wilma (see below), and begin a two-part series on VoIP. Initially we’ll focus on Hosted VoIP services, and next time we’ll discuss IP PBXs.
Also, look for advice on how to protect your data from loss due to a disaster. Finally we provide an overview on 3-Way Calling with Transfer, which is very inexpensive, and enables your business to save on local lines and trunk expenses.

Thanks to the many concerned customers and business partners who reached out to us after Wilma... like many of you, we are just making a complete recovery.
The damage in our old location was so extensive that we decided to move into a building of our own, which involved a relocation to Deerfield Beach. Now that renovations are complete, we are happy to share our new address with you:
We are now located on Hillsboro Blvd. just west of US Hwy 1 on the North side
of the street. If you are in our area, we would love for you to stop by and
say hello to Mervyn, Phil, Chris and Marilyn. Still struggling to get your business phone system or data network fully restored or transitioned to a new location? Please call us or email info@universal-tel.com. Our disaster recovery experience is now finely honed by Wilma.
(First in a two-part series)
Business-class VoIP service gives you the ability to connect a business-class IP phone to your data network, hear dial tone, make local and long distance calls, and manage your communications system better than you ever have before.
IP telephony comes in 2
flavors… the IP phone system you buy and install on your premises and the
IP phone system you lease from a service provider that will host the system
for you… all you need are the phones. This month we’ll explore the advantages
of the hosted option.
You may have heard a lot of
buzz about residential VoIP services from companies like Vonage. There are
also business-class solutions that are designed to deliver service levels
that far surpass the offerings of "best effort" residential VoIP services.
IP voice traffic runs
across the same local data network that connects all the PCs and printers in
your office. Voice calls are prioritized over routine data applications so
your voice traffic is crystal clear. Since you are using broadband
Internet connections for telephone conversations, you will no longer have to
pay for redundant voice lines from the phone company. Business-class calling features enable your staff to make more efficient use of the phone system, greatly improving productivity and customer response. Just a few examples…
That's just the
beginning of a long list of new capabilities you gain with the Hosted PBX
solution. To learn more about bringing the power of the Internet to Voice,
contact Universal Telecommunications at (888) 300-6600 or email us at

we’ll talk about the advantages of premises-based IP PBXs…
Having
just moved into our new offices as a result of damage to our previous building
caused by Hurricane Wilma, we
went through all the things we preach to our customers.
So here are 5 things to
remember if you're planning a move...
#4 - Don't
print new letterhead or business cards until AFTER the new telephone numbers
are INSTALLED and WORKING! Murphy's Law says, "If you print your
cards with the numbers you were promised, they won't be the numbers that the
carrier delivers." #3 - Check that your new location qualifies for DSL or whatever Internet service you need BEFORE you sign the lease. Too many customers call AFTER they have already moved and find their location either doesn't qualify for DSL or it qualifies for a lower speed than they had previously.
#2 - If at all
possible, avoid scheduling your Telecom move on a late Friday afternoon.
If the cutover does not go well, you have to wait until Monday before someone
at the telephone carrier can work on your problem. Moving no later than
Thursday gives you a full business day (Friday) to iron out any problems
BEFORE the weekend. If you must move on a Friday, plan on closing the office
no later than noon so you have the rest of the day to speak with the telephone
company, if necessary. #1 - Call UNIVERSAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS as soon as you even THINK about moving so we can share our experience and assist you in every detail of moving your voice, Internet and Wide Area Network services. Not only is our service free to you, we'll wind up saving you a lot of time and headaches by coordinating with all of your carriers.
Take steps to protect
your critical data against any disaster.
With our DataAssure
service, we offer complete solutions for backing up and managing your data and
applications securely, ensuring they are accessible when you need them.
Every day Data Assure
collects data within your LAN environment, compresses it, and then encrypts it
for transmission to a secure data center via a dedicated private line, a
VPN, or Internet connection.
Your encrypted data is
held offsite where it will be safe, and can be accessed online when you
need to restore it. A secondary backup copy is stored on another server,
further safeguarding your data.
In the event of a major
data loss or site disaster, DataAssure can transmit or manually deliver
your backup data to an alternate location.
If your data and
applications are still unprotected, contact us at
If you have ever
transferred a call to another person outside of your office, you probably
didn’t realize your phone system was using 2 phone lines to make that happen.
After you hit the transfer
button and hang up, the call continues to tie up those 2 lines until the
callers hang up. That may not sound like a big deal, but multiply that process
a dozen times and pretty soon you are talking about needing extra lines just
to keep those folks talking… all on your dime!
There is a better way…
you can transfer people off of your line and free up your incoming lines for
new calls using a BellSouth feature called 3-Way Calling with Transfer.
The same feature has an
extra bonus… you can conference with two people at the same time using only
one phone line. How does this help you?
