News you can use every month…
Keep up with technology, telecom and networking. Learn about new ways to communicate with your employees, partners and customers. With Hurricane Wilma fresh in our minds, we devote most of this month's issue to disaster preparedness and recovery, starting with an update on our business. Learn about some relief services BellSouth is offering. We provide an overview of Remote Access to Call Forwarding, which helps you stay connected during emergencies, and offer some basic tips on planning for a disaster. Our phones are working, and we are up and running -- taking calls from you. Unfortunately our office was destroyed by Wilma. We have made arrangements to move into a nearby suite, and we will maintain our same contact numbers.
As power returns, you should expect your T1 circuits will come up as well. As many of you know, your analog lines have been working, as long as the loop was not physically damaged between your office and the phone company.
For more information or to get additional help with your service, please contact us at (888) 300-6600 or email us at info@universal-tel.com.
BellSouth offers disaster relief plan to help small businesses
If your business has
been affected by Hurricane Wilma, and your business
location is inaccessible, BellSouth has waived fees on many options to keep
your business connected. This relief is available now and ends November
30th.
Remote Call Forwarding,
Call Forwarding Variable, Message Waiting Indicator, Star98 Access and the
Voice Mail Companion Services Package are also included in the list of waived
services that customers could consider using.
With Remote Access to
Call Forwarding, you can re-direct how your calls are forwarded at any
time from any touch tone phone. This service can keep your business running
if your building becomes inaccessible due to a commercial power failure or
other disaster situation.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita
are a
wake-up call for all businesses to develop and practice a disaster
recovery plan to ensure that they can continue operating with minimal
impact.
Being able to recover data
is just one element that requires planning. Other considerations include
facilities, buildings and equipment, operations, communications and
insurance. The website of the U.S. Small Business
Administration (http://www.sba.gov/disaster_recov/prepared/getready.html) has some good tips on all of
these matters.
